Introduction This final project report summarizes the results of nine indepth case studies we completed as part of a modification to the ACTION (Accelerating Change and Transformation in Organizations and Networks) Task Order " Promoting Safety and Quality Through Human Resource Practices, " titled " Extending the Search for High-Performance Work Practices (HPWPs) in Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) Interventions. " Findings are based on 223 key informant interviews completed across the nine sites. Sites studied in this project included one site originally studied during the first phase of this task order and eight new health care organizations selected based on their participation in the federally funded Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) initiative, designed to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs). We used the case study format to explore whether and how the implementation of HPWPs facilitates successful reduction of CLABSIs.

Compliance with prevention practices and their association with central line-associated bloodstream infections in neonatal intensive care units.
BACKGROUND Bundles and checklists have been shown to decrease the rates of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), but implementation of these practices and association with CLABSI rates have not been described nationally. We describe implementation and levels of compliance with preventive practices in a sample of US neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and assess their assoc...

BACKGROUND Knowing the temporal trend central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) rates among U.S. pediatric intensive care units (PICUs), the current extent of central line bundle compliance, and the impact of compliance on rates is necessary to understand what has been accomplished and can be improved in CLABSI prevention. METHODS This is a longitudinal study of PICUs in National...

OBJECTIVE Reduce central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) rates 15% over 12 months in children's hospital NICUs. Use orchestrated testing as an approach to identify important CLABSI prevention practices. METHODS Literature review, expert opinion, and benchmarking were used to develop clinical practice recommendations for central line care. Four existing CLABSI prevention strateg...

OBJECTIVES The incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) attributed to central venous catheters (CVCs) inserted in the emergency department (ED) is not widely reported. The goal was to report the incidence of ED CLABSI. Secondary goals included determining the effect of a CVC bundle introduced by the hospital infection prevention department to decrease CLABSI during t...
